Olive oil is renowned for its health benefits. So, it isn't surprising that since ancient times, olive oil has been used to make soap.
Here are the seven main benefits of using olive oil soap.
- Perfect skin moisturizer
- Gentle makeup remover
- Antioxidant properties
- Anti-inflammatory properties
- Relieves eczema and psoriasis
- Extra mild and gentle soap
- Helps with acne
1. Perfect skin moisturizer
Olive Oil Soap gives a very clean and buttery feel despite minimal lather. It provides a very moisturizing effect that lasts for a longer time, making it perfect for people with very dry and sensitive skin including eczema and psoriasis.
At The Olive Tree, all our handmade soaps are made in small batches in Australia using olive oil as the main ingredient.
As such, our handmade soaps are rich in glycerine unlike commercial soaps which acts as a humectant to draw moisture from the environment to your skin to help keep your skin moisturised and hydrated for longer periods.
2. Gentle makeup remover
Olive oil based soap removes make up gently and efficiently without irritating the skin, especially removing makeup around the eyes. However, just like any soap without pH neutralizing chemicals, please avoid soap from getting into your eyes as it will sting a little.
You may use our unscented Olive Oil Soap and Avocado Soap as a facial cleanser too. Alternatively, you can try our specially made Damask Rose Floral Facial Bar which is enriched with olive oil infused in calendula extract, shea butter, damask rose water, avocado and jojoba oils that not only makes a great makeup remover but is especially suitable for dry, sensitive or acne prone skin.
3. Antioxidant properties
Olive Oil Soap contains antioxidant properties as we use olive oil as a key ingredient in our handmade soaps. Olive oil can repair damage caused by free radicals on the skin. It stimulates new cell generation, slows down wrinkle development and gives skin a youthful look.
4. Anti-inflammatory properties
Olive Oil Soap has anti-inflammatory effects and is non-irritating to the skin. It helps to gently clean even the most sensitive skin including skin abrasions, rashes and even sunburns.
5. Relieves eczema and psoriasis
Olive Oil Soap is known to provide relief to skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis.
As all our handmade olive oil based soaps are vegan and uses only premium plant-based ingredients, it is free from harsh irritable chemicals like sulphates (SLE, SLES), parabens, EDTA, synthetic colour and artificial fragrance.
6. Extra mild and gentle soap
A 2008 publication of "Paediatric Dermatology" found that olive oil was a suitable ingredient in creams used on pre-term infants. If it's safe for use on the skin of newborns, it is likely to be gentle on sensitive skin. It is hypoallergenic and very rarely are people allergic to olive oil.
For those who prefer liquid soap, we have our unscented Pure Liquid Castile Soap which is olive oil and coconut oil based. It is extremely moisturizing and rich in glycerine and you can customize it to your favourite scent by adding essential oils into it.
7. Helps with acne
Olive oil soap is non-greasy and so will not clog pores which is great for acne prone skin.
Our Tea Tree Soap is also great for helping with back acne.
