This Christmas, we worked with Dora Ting of Les Dyer Workshop to hand dye furoshiki wraps using natural indigo dye.
Originating from India, the indigo dye is derived from the leaves of shrubs in the Indigofera family. It has been used for more than 5000 years in most regions of India to colour yarn and fabric (especially cotton) in shades of blue. It is the blue dye that is used to dye our jeans blue.
It took her around 1200 hours = 2400 bags & furoshiki wraps.
Each furoshiki wrap is carefully tied, dyed, rinsed, dried and ironed, by hand. Every furoshiki is unique and different.
