In the past 10 years alone, we have produced more plastic than we did in the whole of the last century.¹

The sad reality is that only 10% of plastic is actually recycled and most of them end up in landfills or the ocean.

At The Olive Tree, we are conscious of the fact that most of our products are packaged in recyclable packaging such as plastic and glass bottles. Therefore, we want to be responsible for the packaging that we produce for our products.

With that conviction, we launched our OneLess Programme since 2018 whereby we reward customers RM 1 each for every clean empty The Olive Tree plastic and glass bottles returned to us.  Please do note that we can only accept bottles that are clean and dry as this is a pre-requisite for recycling or reusing. 

We are only accepting our own The Olive Tree empty bottles now because we want to be responsible for our own packaging that we produce. Also, our customers prefer to reuse our own The Olive Tree bottles to refill their daily essentials and lastly, bottles from other brands may not be of the right size in terms of the bottle opening for refills.

We accept our own bottles from the personal care, facial care and aromatherapy range. 

We view recycling as the last resort after exhausting the reuse option. We believe that reusing is the better option as recycling plastic is energy intensive and by reusing, it helps relieve the pressure from our recycling system.

1.  Sort - We sort the cleaned bottles into the recycle or reuse pile. Plastic bottles which cannot be reused, we will drop them off at IPC Recycling Centre to recycle. For glass bottles, we will pass them to our business partner who will then reuse them as their packaging.

2. Clean & Sterilise - We clean the bottles fit for reuse again and sterilise them with UV.

3. Reuse - We give them a second lease of life by reusing them at our stores as well as our neighbourhood bulk stores (i.e. The Hive Bulk Store and Common Goods Store) when customers opt for refills.

We started offering bulk refills at our own stores in 2019 from our Package Free Store in Sunway Nexis and 1 Utama. 

Refills of our popular natural shampoo, conditioner and body wash are available.

You can refill using your own bottles or the bottles which we have cleaned and sterilised to replenish your daily essentials.
