We recently collaborated with Hope for Pakistani Refugees (HOPE) which is one of the community based organisation registered with UNHCR, established and run by refugees from Pakistan.

As of end of August 2018, there are some 161,140 refugees and asylum-seekers registered with UNHCR in Malaysia. Although the majority of the refugees are from Myanmar, there are some 5,810 Pakistani refugees living in Malaysia.

HOPE provides classes for refugee children and vocational training for adults. One of their aims is for members of their community to learn valuable sewing skills which in turn can enable them to be more self-sustaining.

As we were looking to update our gift sets, we got to know about HOPE and their cause resonated with us. Despite being away from their homeland, their positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills and language were humbling. Hence, we decided to collaborate with them to make a handmade pouch that showcased elements of their Pakistani culture from the design to fabric selection using newly acquired skills kindly taught by United Artisans' volunteers.

This handmade pouch is available in four colours - Olive Green, Royal Blue, Deep Purple and Enchanting Maroon and retails at RM 49.90. It is also bundled together with our gift sets.
